About the project
Nordkraft Big Band wants to highlight the music of students of MGK and DJM. We encourage newcomers and seasoned composer and songwriters to apply and give their music the opportunity to be interpreted and performed by a professional big band.
New Northern Composers is an opportunity to take your music from the page into a professional big band – from the initial idea to a finished arrangement and live performance.
Through the New Northern Composers-project, we invite music students and emerging composers to submit their own compositions or musical ideas and perform the music together with Nordkraft Big Band.
From your composition to big band
We will select five-eight compositions for the project. The selected works will be arranged for Nordkraft Big Band by one of our professional arrangers.
As a composer, you will be involved in this process. The arrangement will be developed in dialogue with you, ensuring that your musical ideas and artistic expression remain at the heart of the transformation into a big band arrangement.
The finished arrangements will be performed by Nordkraft Big Band and you at a concert in the spring.
Who can apply?
The project is aimed at music students and emerging songwriters and composers from MGK-Nord and The Royal Academy of Music Aalborg who have an original composition or just an musical idea they would like to explore in a big band setting.
Your composition/idea may have been written specifically for big band, but it can also be a piece originally written for a different instrumentation.
How to participate
To be considered for the project, please submit:
- A lead sheet of your composition
- A recording of the composition (a demo recording made on your phone is fine)

You will be notified start December if your composition has been selected for the project.
